The paintings of Lora Nikolova are auto-analytic, with recurrent images of opened windows, fragments of city landscapes with stylized buildings, stairs and roads. The human figure is always present but somehow alluded, especially the human face and the eyes as an expression of emotion. The paintings represent a surreal collage, which reveals the continuous interaction between men and environment (the city) or nature in the form of trees, water or the sky. A stylized reality of the rational mind in a peculiar combination with the experiences of the soul and intuitive symbols of the unconsciousness. Naif with their lively colors and contrasts, these surreal scenes strongly remind of the enigmatic world of dreams. The message of the artist could be interpreted as a path of self search and a romantic necessity of finding answers to existential matters. The different pieces of the same puzzle are mutually connected by key elements like stairs and streets united in a precise color graphic composition. The artist uses mainly acrylic colors but also mixed media techniques like collage, oil and dry pastels, as for the miniature drawings, created with a fine tipped pen, she applies a variety of illustration techniques.
